Photogrammetry Christchurch

3D property models built from real aerial imagery.

Photogrammetry combines many overlapping photographs to reconstruct a property, building or site as a three-dimensional model.

3D capture

A useful output, not just a drone flight.

A 3D model can make a site much easier to understand remotely than a set of ordinary photographs. Instead of choosing one viewpoint at capture time, photogrammetry records enough overlapping imagery to reconstruct visible surfaces in three dimensions.

Plotbird is interested in practical property-scale uses: existing-condition documentation, buildings and surrounding ground, visual records, and shareable models that help someone understand the physical site.

Some surfaces reconstruct better than others. Glass, moving vegetation, uniform textures and hidden areas can all affect the result, so the right capture plan depends on the subject.

  • 3D property and building models
  • Existing-condition visual records
  • Site-context reconstruction
  • High-overlap oblique image capture
  • Shareable model outputs where appropriate
Important: Plotbird provides visual mapping, imagery and photogrammetry. It does not replace licensed cadastral or engineering survey work where that is required.

Questions

Before the drone goes up.

Is a photogrammetry model dimensionally accurate?

It can preserve useful spatial relationships, but the level of measurement accuracy depends on capture and control methods. Plotbird will not represent a visual model as engineering or cadastral survey data.

What makes a good photogrammetry subject?

Buildings, textured ground and clearly visible surfaces generally reconstruct well. Reflective glass, water, moving trees and hidden geometry can be more difficult.

Can the model include the whole property?

Yes where the property size, airspace and subject suit the method. Larger or more complex sites may need multiple capture passes.
